Gainesville, Florida 2005

Organised by Irvy Quitmyer and Kat Szabó

The inaugural meeting of the ICAZ Archaeomalacology Working Group was held from the 17th to 19th of February, and was hosted by the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville. The theme for the meeting was: The Status of Archaeomalacology in the 21st Century. Organised by Irv Quitmyer, the meeting was a huge success with lots of opportunities for discussion and socialising with fellow archaeomalacologists. Two days of papers were followed by a full day field trip, visiting a number of ‘shellish’ sites and locations around the Gainesville area.

The conference proceedings were published as a special issue of the journal Archaeofauna entitled “Molluscs and other marine resources”.  The reference details are: Szabó, K. and I. Quitmyer (eds) 2008. Molluscs and other marine resources.  Archaeofauna 17, special issue.
